3 key summer hearing aid maintenance tips: moisture protection, avoiding high temperatures, and regular cleaning
The sweltering summer heat reminds us hearing aids also need special care! Hot and humid weather can easily cause devices to become damp, parts to age, and even affect sound quality. Here are 3 maintenance tricks to you easily deal with summer challenges:
1.Moisture and humidity protection: Don’t let sweat “soak” the device
When wearing hearing aids in summer, sweat and humidity may sneak into the device’s interior, causing issues like a malfunctioning microphone or battery corrosion.

What to do:
- D the device daily
After taking off your hearing aids, use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe away surface sweat, paying special attention to the microphone opening and around the battery compartment - Store in a dry box when not in use
Remove the battery before storage to avoid leakage and damage to parts. The desiccant in the dry box should replaced regularly, and in humid areas, it is recommended to use an electronic dryer once a week (remember to take out the battery before drying). - Be careful when or swimming
- Before bathing, take off the hearing aids and place them in a dry box.
- When swimming, if you need to wear a cochlear implant, must use a waterproof protective cover.
- When entering or leaving an air-conditioned room, check if there are any condensation droplets on the sound conduit and housing, wipe them dry in time.
- Rainy day protection
Use an umbrella or raincoat to shield hearing aids from the rain to avoid getting them wet
2.Avoid High Temperature: Don’t Let Your Device “Overheat”
Hearing aids are sensitive to sun exposure! Prolonged exposure high temperatures can accelerate the aging of the casing, shorten battery life, and even damage delicate parts.
Do this:
- Avoid direct sunlight
When outdoors, protect hearing aid with a hat or umbrella, and don’t leave it in a hot, enclosed space like a car. - Give your device regular “breaks”
After wear, take out your hearing aid and place it in a dry box stored in a cool location (away from ovens, microwaves, and other heat sources).
Wipe hands before handling
Sweat on your hands can transfer to the device’s surface, increasing the risk of moisture damage.
3.Deep cleaning: Banish sweat and grime
Sweat and dust can easily clog the microphone and affect sound quality in the summer Regular cleaning can make the device last longer.

How to do it:
- Daily quick wipe
Clean the case with a dry cloth, and use swabs to clean the microphone hole, battery compartment, and other crevices. - Focus on high-grime areas
- Microphone hole:ently brush away dust with a soft-bristled brush.
- Ear tips/ear molds: Wash with a dedicated cleaner once a week (avoiding parts).
- Ear tubes: If they turn yellow and hard, contact your audiologist to replace them.
